Most of my recent work has been with founders building something from nothing. Here's what that actually looks like.
Built the operational infrastructure from zero. Fifty-plus SOPs across operations, sales, finance, marketing, and HR. Contract management systems, vendor scorecards, customer onboarding workflows, delivery rhythms. The scaffolding that lets a company actually function instead of living inside the founders' heads.
First CRM and project management implementation. The workflows I built let them scale their workforce 3x and their client base 5x without the founders having to touch day-to-day coordination.
Built a quote calculator that cut quote creation time by 92% and eliminated the errors that had been creating customer friction. Then implemented a project management tool that cut administration time in half.
The early wins aren't the biggest impact. But they give you enough room to breathe that the larger work becomes possible.
Everyone has one — the vendor contract that's been sitting open, the process everyone's working around, the decision you keep deferring because you don't have the context to make it well. That gets cleared first.
Not because nothing's falling through — because you finally have visibility into what's happening, and a system for tracking it. The things that were getting dropped aren't dropping anymore.
Documentation starts existing. People start pointing each other at it instead of pinging you.
This sounds small. It isn't.
Documentation is freedom, not a leash. The system I build shouldn't need me to maintain it.
Once the pressure's off, the real work begins. SOPs for the work that needs to happen consistently. Swim lanes for the handoffs that keep breaking. Review cycles that catch problems early. Documentation that lives somewhere findable, in language your team actually uses.
That distinction matters. If I build it for you, you have a system that works while I'm there and degrades the week I leave. If I build it with you, you end up with something your team owns — something they know how to run, something they have permission to change when the business changes.
Part of what I'm doing, while I'm in there, is finding the person inside your organization who already thinks like an operator. They might not have the title. They might not know that's what they're doing. But they're there, and they're the reason the work sticks after I leave.
